Belgorod State University of Arts and Culture is one of the leading educational institutions in the region, the main aim of which is to train highly skilled specialists in social and cultural sphere on the basis of scientifically developed and certified model of ethnic and cultural education according to the following type: Art School, College of Culture and Arts, University of Arts and Culture, Music Conservatory, Master`s program, department of post-graduate education with the succession of curriculums and programs.

The structure of the University consists of 5 faculties, 29 departments, department of post-graduate education, Art school, spiritual and educational centre, Musical College of S.A.Degtyarev, regional centre of additional professional education and methodical centre of artistic education.

The quality level of specialists` training is highly stipulated by the teaching staff. 61% of teachers have science degrees and academic titles as well as honorary degrees in the sphere of arts and culture.

Pre-university training of foreign students has a special place in the educational process. The main aim of education is to prepare students from countries of near and far abroad to enter BSUAC and other Russian higher educational institutions and colleges.

The high level of the offered education, favorable prices, warm psychological climate, well-developed infrastructure of the Institute, interesting student life in Belgorod - all this attracts young people from different countries to choose studying at the preparatory department of BSUAC!

The teachers of preparatory department have the rich experience of working with foreign citizens at the initial stage of studying. Teachers speak foreign languages and it helps to communicate with students since their first days of stay in Russia. The work (teaching) is conducted on the base of new lexico-grammatical training aids with the support of the modern methodic of education.

The students of the preparatory department learn the Russian language, as well as the disciplines of the chosen spatiality: mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, economic, country study and others. Particular attention is paid to the scientific style of speech as the basis of language of specialty.

After finishing the preparatory department and successful passing of examinations foreign citizens will get the state-recognized certificate and can continue their education at one of the faculties of BSUAC, at college of BSUAC or at any other educational institution in Russia.

Belgorod

Belgorod is a city and the administrative center of Belgorod Oblast, Russia, situated on the Seversky Donets River just 40 kilometers (25 mi) north of the Ukrainianborder. Population: 356,426 (2010 Census preliminary results).

Belgorod is served by Belgorod International Airport (EGO). The name Belgorod in Russian literally means "a white city", name being a compound of "белый" (bely, "white, light") and "город" (gorod, "town, city"). The city was thus named after the region being rich in limestone. Etymologically, it corresponds to other Slavic city names of identical meaning: Belgrade, Białogard, Biograd', Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi etc.

The settlement was first mentioned in 1237, when it was ravaged by the hordes of Batu Khan. It is unclear whether this Belgorod was located at the same place where the current city is. In 1596, it was re-founded by the order of Feodor Ioannovich as one of numerous forts set up to defend Southern borders from the Crimean Tatars.

After the Russian border was moved further south, the fortress fell in disrepair and the town was assigned to the Government of Kursk. Peter the Great visited it on the eve of the Battle of Poltava, and a dragoon regiment was stationed in the town until 1917.

Ioasaph of Belgorod, an 18th century bishop, became widely venerated as a miracle worker and was glorified as a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1911.

It was occupied by Nazi Germany on October 25, 1941. On July 12, 1943, during the Battle of Kursk, the largest tank battle in world history took place near Prokhorovka, and the city was consequently liberated on August 5, 1943. The Belgorod Diorama is one of the World War II monuments commemorating the event.

Belgorod is an administrative, industrial and cultural center of Belgorod Oblast, established in 1954. The major educational centers of the city are Belgorod State University, Technological University, Agricultural Academy, Financial Academy.

Belgorod Drama Theater is named after one of the famous 19th-century actors Mikhail Shchepkin who was born in this region.

Administratively, it is incorporated as the city of oblast significance of Belgorod—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts. Municipally, the city of oblast significance of Belgorod is incorporated as Belgorod Urban Okrug.

A hall of residence is given to the students. New and comfortable hall of residence is situated within the main building of the University. Bright and spacious rooms are given for all comers. There is a gym, fitness studio, canteen, teaching and rest rooms in the hall of residence.

STUDENTS` LIFE

Much attention is paid to the organization of educational work with the students. Students` self-administration is organized on the principle of Students` Country with president at the head, students` government and different ministries. Students` self-administration allows actualizing civic stand of young people, educating and activating potential electorate. It also gives opportunity for students to solve major problems independently. The conditions for cultural, leisure, sports and health activities are created in the University.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

One of the most important areas of BSUAC`s development is scientific-research and innovative activity which is included into essential training conditions of highly qualified staff for cultural and art sphere.

Students` Scientific Society (SSS) is formed in the University. Members of the Society push science and young generation forward. Every year they take part in different scientific measures such as round-table conferences, ethnographic expeditions, conferences, seminars, master classes of international, All-Russian, inter-regional and interuniversity levels.

Great opportunities for the development of students` science and innovative activity are seen in the work of students` small innovative businesses working within Business-Incubator of BSUAC, where all the necessary material, technical, economic and legal conditions for future formation and development are available. Rich and promising areas of scientific and creative activity of our students, postgraduates, graduates and young scientists are developed in these businesses.

Refresher courses for teachers, professors and workers of arts and culture in BSUAC are also carried out.
